Flint Hills Fine Arts is a small studio in the heart of the tallgrass prairie, offering classical instruction in drawing and oil painting in the style of a traditional atelier.
Students progress at their own pace through a sequence used by academic ateliers for well over a century. Students start with the fundamentals and make incremental improvements towards more complicated subject matter.

Students, after demonstrating an understanding of sight size measurement, will learn to draw forms and accurately shade using a variety of materials.
Students, using the skills gained under Section I & II, will further develop by copying drawings of famous sculptures called Bargue plates.
Students will learn the fundamentals of working with oil paint, including materials, color mixing, brushwork, and basic painting techniques.
Students will develop their understanding of light, value, and color while working from simple still life arrangements and progressively more complex subjects.
Students will apply the skills developed in earlier sections to more challenging subjects, including portraits and the human figure.
